Wings Repeat 3-1 Win Over Penguins

Entering game the anticipated matchup was Zetterberg vs. Crosby. With only 24 hours between the first and second games Pavel Datsyuk and Kris Draper remain on the injured list. The Wings started strong with the first 7 shots on goal. Unfortunately for the Wings they lost a bit of that momentum in the last 10 minutes of the period as the tide shifted toward the Penguins. Ultimately culminating with Evgeni Malkin scoring the first point at 16:50 on a Pittsburgh powerplay.

Wing nuts only had to wait 4 minutes into the second period for the hometeam equalizer. Coming off an icing call and a seemingly tired Penguin defense, Ericsson launched a rocket into the back of the net to tie the game at 1 a piece.

Moments after a successful penalty kill by the Penguins in the 2nd period. Filppula scored an unbelievable backhand to put the Wings up 2-1. In the third period, once again, Red Wings rookie Justin Abdelkader secured the victory with his 2nd goal of the playoffs.

With 19 seconds remaining, a cheap shot against Osgood by Max Talbot started a flurry of fights which even provoked the usually pacifist Zetterberg to throw off his gloves. Half-torn jerseys scattered the rink but refs quickly controlled the chaos on the ice. “They did a little bit of whacking,” Ericsson said of the Penguins. “Of course you’re going to be frustrated when Ozzie doesn’t let anything in.”
