Hundreds of people turned out at the Charles H. Wright Museum of African-American History in Detroit to watch a broadcast of Michael Jackson’s memorial service.
WUOM, Michigan Radio was at the scene as fans danced to Jackson’s songs in the aisles of the Wright Museum’s theater, and an impersonator entertained the crowd before the service started.
About 600 people turned out for the Detroit event. Many of them, like Jenell Smith, arrived in the early morning hours to secure a seat inside.
Smith came from her senior citizen apartment center wearing a sparkly black hat and tight black leather pants, with her Thriller LP in hand.
“I couldn’t have sit home and watched it, it’s not the same as being with the crowd. So I’m just thankful that I made it here,” she said. “And I’m sorry I outlived you, Michael! But I love you, baby.”

Father of Motown Berry Gordy went beyond acknowledging Michael Jackson as the King of Pop as he eulogized him as ‘The Greatest Entertainer’. Earlier this week he spoke of Jackson, here’s an excerpt:
Michael Jackson’s memorial service gathered an unprecedented amount of online viewers. According to Mashable, 500,000 Facebook status updates were posted during the ceremony and over 300,000 users logged in using FB Connect to watch CNN’s live-stream. That totals approximately 6,000 updates per minute.
The stats however were simply a byproduct as Detroiters at the Charles H. Wright Museum stood united with Los Angeles, and the Jackson family to commemorate the life of a brother, a father, a legend; the life of Michael Jackson.

I’m glad to witness this event with public support. Feeling the love from the crowd helped the grievance especially when little Paris spoke.
