GM Files for Bankruptcy Protection

After months of speculation, and one year after celebrating their Centennial milestone, General Motors could not avoid what many saw as inevitable – filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.
We contend that what Detroit and its hard-working citizens have to offer far outweigh the pessimistic attitude of most of its critics. That genetics passed on the innovation from decades past into the veins of bolder and younger Detroit engineers of the 21st century. While the majority of our stories focus on the affirmative, we are inclined to share our thoughts on this current event.
New York Times ran a story, “After many stumbles, the fall of an American giant,” and just about every major media outlet has a similar headline in today’s news. It’s easy to pick on a person when he’s down, especially when that person once stood as a mighty giant. Everyone’s an expert in hindsight; I can tell you exactly why Napoleon lost at Waterloo, but you won’t find me teaching at West Point anytime soon. Similarly, you must not be fooled that the solution lies within Washington D.C., or hope will come from Wall Street. The solution is in front of our eyes; no need to look hundreds of miles for the answer, it is right here in the City.
The seal on Detroit’s flag reveals deep wisdom, centuries old knowledge: “We hope for better things… It shall rise from the ashes.” Our focus is on the constructive not the critiques, the future and not the past. We can relive the 1950s by driving a stylish Corvette down Woodward but we can’t rewrite past and glorious decades. The auto industry has the tools necessary for recovery and Detroit has the spirit to survive. We are leading the way in alternative-energy, science, research and technology. Have no doubt, however, we are in full control of writing a prosperous and luminous future.
